A Robot That Can Safely Work Alongside Humans

In a typical manufacturing plant with automation, significant integrated safety systems are required around equipment such as robots. The need for separation means floor space is consumed with cells required to keep robots and other automated equipment from harming humans.

In their video below, KUKA Systems demonstrate a robot that can work alongside a human without the need for the normal separation to maintain a safe work environment. The KUKA FlexFELLOW is a complete intelligent assembly assistant system that includes a lightweight robot. The video shows how the robot can accurately perform non-ergonomic tasks while a human can undertake other manual operations in the same station. Should the robot come in contact with the human the cycle stops. The human can then restart the system’s cycle with a physical gesture to the robot arm.

It still cannot load my dishwasher.
