Friction Welding Pipe

The friction welding process is quite straight forward on face value. It is essentially rubbing two pieces of metal together with pressure to get them to a red-hot melting point then stop the rubbing, but keep the pressure, and let the pieces fuse. I am sure there is a lot of technical know how to make sure you get a quality weld, but this video of an oil drill pipe being friction welded really does make it look that simple.
